In a press release dated May 5, 2010, US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced the Education Department is proposing to double the amount of federal dollars set aside to promote family involvement. Currently, districts are required to use 1% of Title I dollars to carry out such activities, but under the new proposed law, districts would be required to use 2% of the dollars. This is approximately equal to $270 million.
